The Day Hospital is a mode of hospitalization applied for daytime stays lasting a maximum of 8 hours, consisting of one or more scheduled visits, each lasting less than a day, and allowing the provision of multispecialty diagnostic and/or therapeutic services.
This type of hospitalization cannot be of an urgent nature and can only occur on a scheduled basis.
Day Hospital services can be performed for the following procedures:
- Check-ups: to offer greater comfort to patients undergoing both clinical tests and medical examinations in a few hours;
- Medical and oncological therapies: involving one or more visits for anti-tumor treatments;
- Minor surgical interventions that do not require general anesthesia; in this case, the patient is accommodated in a room with a chair;
- Pre-hospitalization: when the attending physician requires all preoperative examinations and any necessary specialist consultations to be carried out in the period prior to admission.
