The vascular surgery service at Arsbiomedica specializes in diseases of the blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels. Vascular surgery intervenes surgically to treat atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in the arteries), aneurysms (abnormal dilation of a blood vessel), and other vascular pathologies.

Vascular pathologies can pose various health risks if not recognized and treated properly: peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular insufficiency due to carotid stenosis, varicose veins, aortic aneurysms, ulcers, and wounds from atherosclerosis or venous disease.

Varicose veins are dilations of the veins, typically in the lower limbs, causing sometimes severe symptoms and complications.

The service’s objective is to cure or improve the prognosis of conditions affecting the blood vessels in our bodies. Prevention through non-invasive and repeatable Doppler ultrasound exams is the best defense.

 Diagnostic:

Doppler ultrasound effectively detects the silent killers of vascular pathologies: carotid artery stenosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm; they are asymptomatic diseases until sometimes fatal complications arise! But Doppler ultrasound is also crucial for early detection of all venous and arterial pathologies treated by vascular surgery.

 Performed Procedures:

The surgeon has various interventions to offer: endovascular revascularization, bypass insertion, ablation with stripping, radiofrequency or cyanoacrylate of veins, endoarterectomy (to remove plaques in the artery causing obstruction), traditional surgical repair or endovascular procedure of the abdominal aortic aneurysm, sclerotherapy (to scarify varicose veins), venous stripping (removal of a vein segment in varicose vein treatment), ozone therapy or infusions of cells enriched with healing-promoting factors for complex wound treatment.
