Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) or Holmium Laser Surgery
Holmium laser surgery in urology employs endoscopic holmium laser for the treatment of prostate hypertrophy and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
What does it involve?
The procedure involves the minimally invasive treatment of the prostatic adenoma, avoiding traditional open surgery. The laser penetrates superficially and is capable of cutting the affected tissue with minimal trauma, avoiding thermal damage to adjacent tissue, a process that does not cause bleeding. This treatment provides immediate relief from symptoms, rapid recovery, and an improved quality of life for the patient. It is usually performed under epidural anesthesia, in the operating room, or with very brief hospitalization.
The main urological procedures in which the Holmium Laser is used include:
Prostatic adenoma
Ureter and kidney stones
