Arsbiomedica specializes in conducting all interventions to treat obesity. To address overweight situations, various therapies are possible, and in more complex cases, such as 2nd or 3rd-degree obesity, surgery becomes the optimal therapeutic path for the patient.
Bariatric surgery interventions are minimally invasive procedures performed laparoscopically, a modern and effective surgical technique that not only significantly reduces the aesthetic signs of the intervention (2 or 3 small incisions) but also allows the patient to benefit from a faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and reduced post-operative pain.
Through bariatric surgery procedures, an average weight loss of 70% of excess weight can be anticipated, which may vary based on the patient’s age, height, gender, and medical history.
Bariatric Surgery: When to Choose It?
Bariatric surgery is recommended for:
- All patients aged between 18 and 65 with second-degree obesity, especially in the presence of associated diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, dyslipidemia, osteoarthritis, or cardiovascular events.
- Patients with third-degree obesity, even without associated diseases.
- Bariatric surgery cannot be performed without previous conservative attempts (diet followed by a specialist) and in cases where patients have difficulty cooperating in follow-up care: alcoholism, substance abuse, bulimia nervosa, or psychosis.
Procedures Performed:
Internationally, there are four procedures within bariatric surgery, but the two main ones (Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Bypass) represent over 80% of procedures performed worldwide and are the primary choice for the majority of patients.
