Gastroscopy is an endoscopic examination that allows for a direct visualization of the oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, and duodenum in succession. Thanks to gastroscopy performed at Arsbiomedica, the gastroenterology team has the opportunity to monitor the gastrointestinal health of patients at any age.

How is Gastroscopy performed?

Gastroscopy is performed using an instrument equipped with a terminal optical group containing light sources and a miniaturized camera that transmits images to a computer, which then processes and displays them on a high-definition screen. This allows the operator to have a direct, instantaneous, and highly precise view of the examined mucosa.

When is Gastroscopy necessary?

Gastroscopy can evaluate:

  • Conditions of gastroesophageal reflux and any complications (such as Barrett’s esophagus);
  • Anomalies of the esophagogastric junction, such as sliding hiatal hernia; Inflammatory or tumor pathologies affecting any segment of the upper gastrointestinal tract;
  • Search for Helicobacter pylori and consequently verify related pathologies (such as gastritis and gastric or duodenal ulcerative lesions);
  • Precancerous or neoplastic lesions;
  • Malabsorption alterations affecting the duodenum (particularly celiac disease), and finally diverticula of the stomach or duodenum.

How to prepare for Gastroscopy?

For proper preparation for Gastroscopy, it is sufficient to observe a fasting period of at least 8 hours for solids and 6 hours for liquids to facilitate the cleansing of the digestive system and make internal observation easier. (If necessary, other specific instructions will be provided in advance by the relevant office).
